There are a lot of sub and alternative cultures to pull inspiration from this fall such as whimsy goth, dark academia, preppy, grunge, cottagecore, old money, indie sleaze, and skater revival. All of these are helpful to be aware of this season but if you want to veer off and at least be aware of what’s going on in the world of fashion I can give you a few of my favorite trends coming from the runway this fall.
- Belts – are having a moment. This is exciting because I personally have never seen them worn to this extent. Designs like Schiaparelli are wearing multiple belts stacked on the waist to give an intense cinched effect that feels structured and a little edgy. Some are going so far as to suggest wearing them as shirts.
- Fanny Packs – Along the lines of belts the fanny pack is making a comeback, and honestly, I feel like fanny packs are one of those things that never really leave us. In my opinion fanny packs can be styled as a convenient alternative to a purse or a hand bag. However on the runway brands like Prada and Miu Miu are styling them as belt bags, which are worn around the waist or are tightened for that cinched accent look.
- Fawn Print – One trend I am very excited about is the fawn print. Fawns are often associated with innocence, purity, vulnerability and having a gentle nature. I assume this trend stems from the romanization of girlhood and the innocence of youth. Designers like Tory Burch and Brandon Maxwell have taken a sporty luxury approach to it but i cant wait to see how it shows up for the average consumer.
- Colors & Classics – The color of the season is purple which you can accent with various shades of green. Bonus points if you find a plaid flannel at the thrift store as plaid and flannel will always have a home in the fall season. And of course you can not go wrong with chunky knee high socks, bonus if you can pull off a pair of sheer socks.
