It was like trying on a new costume for your identity — giving a new version of yourself a little test run without having to commit.

I think what made the ‘90s such a magical time to experiment with identity was the lack of pressure. There were endless options, but no one expected perfection. You didn’t have to be “aesthetic” or Instagram-ready — you could just be. Awkward, weird, and a little off-beat. It was about the ride, not the destination.
Now that I’m an adult, I try to recreate that same energy every holiday season (starting, of course, with Halloween).
